Israel is sometimes called the homeland of the Jews. It may be the only country that disappeared for over a 1,000 years and then was re-established. Israel is located in the "Middle East".

In Hebrew, it's written as ישראל. It is pronounced Yis-ra-el, and in transliteration is usually spelled Yisra'el or Yisrael.
