"There is no axiom is history to substantiate the necessity of a people returning to a country they left nineteen centuries before, if a "Hebrew" home is desired it would not be too difficult to find a more fitting territory than Palestine, with an increase in the Jewish people there new grave problems would arise..." - Pope Pius XII
Pope Pius XII's connection to the Jewish Holocaust has long been despituted among researchers and historians. Some say that Pius gave Hitler money to start the Holocaust while others say that he rescued thousands of Jews.
Before he became Pope, Pius did send money to Hitler to help start the Nazi party but was probably not aware that Hitler intended to kill the Jews in Europe. However near the end of the war Pius wrote to President Roosevelt telling him not to make Palestine a Jewish homeland. During the war Pius never spoke out against the Holocaust, suggesting that he either knew nothing about it or he supported Hitler.
When Pius died many Jews paid tribute too him. Wheter or not Pope Pius was involved with the Holocaust is still a mystery.
