Shiva is the seven day period of mourning following a death. Like most rituals around important life events, shiva is observed in multiple different ways.

Vistors to a house where the family is "sitting shiva" often bring food, but flowers are not given or brought. There is often a short evening service held.

Alternative spelling: shiv'ah
Hebrew spelling: שבעה
