Jewish Music wiki[]

There's a whole wiki dedicated to this topic. I suggest that this page be a general description of jewish music, maybe a short history of styles etc. Famous names, the like, and then a link to the other wiki and forget more in depth stuff/multiple pages here. I would add that having a Musicians section on this page seems foolish, as there are several hundred. Linking to a wiki which will hopefully have a separate page for each one seems like a better idea. DeFender1031 18:39, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

If I remember correctly, that Wikia and the one on Jewish Philosophy were both started after this one. I thought it made more sense, given the limited number of contributors and energy, to include the music and philosophy topics here, but others disagreed. Since you've apparently decided to liven up that site too (although after almost 3 years there are only 43 pages there), I'm ok with having the majority of the music content be there and just a short article here which will describe a few highlights and point to that wiki. I'll follow whoever is willing to contribute the most's preference. Good luck! -- CocoaZen 00:37, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
It WAS started after, you are correct... Actually, my reasoning is that i've been having trouble developing a community, and i feel like this wiki is more promising. I think if we do what i suggested and a community develops here, it's more likely to attract people over there. I am not familiar with the philosophy wiki (would you mind providing a link?), but if it doesn't have a solid community and decent pages, i'd rather keep the info here, as what i want to build here is a philosophical and scholorly knowledge base. I'm in no mood to adopt another wiki, nor do i really have the time to do so. — DeFender1031Wikipedia lighter blue star of davidTalk 04:07, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup[]

This should provide a brief history of Jewish music, not tons of links to things that belong on the other wiki anyway. — DeFender1031Wikipedia lighter blue star of davidTalk 12:01, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Themes from Liturgy[]

How about music like Simon and Garfunkel's I am a Rock. Which makes reference to the concept of "no man is an island" or "am I my brother's keeper"? Does Jewish Music belong on the Jewish Music Wikia, and famous Jewish musicians on this one? -- CocoaZen 03:54, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

We can have a section here about jewish influence on secular music, quoting lines such as those, and mentioning whether the singer/songwriter is jewish. As for famous jewish musicians, that belongs on wikipedia in my opinion, as that information will not differ between NPOV and JPOV, and is not connected with jewish ideas, but rather they just happen to be jewish. We can certainly put a clever link from the influence on secular music section from here to that wikipedia page. — DeFender1031Wikipedia lighter blue star of davidTalk 04:58, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
